| | Steve's name kept coming up in conversation over the past week, particularily how he dragged me and Tony Wing out to Kareoke at the Gladstone years before it became "culturally ironic". I remember it took a little cajoling on his part "I've been going for a few weeks now and it's really (insert anochronistic Steve adjective: groovy, spaced out, etc.) When I showed up Steve was in full cowboy regalia and I realized he'd probably been showing up like this for a couple weeks all by himself -"testing the waters".
Steve, Tony and I attempted a Beachboys or a Beegees three part harmony with dubious result. Tony won a trucker hat.
Checked this site today and sure enough, three years and a day. Now the Gladstone is reno-ed and whitebelts have scared away the kareoke regulars. I wonder if they've squeezed out the old guy that ran the kareoke night and replaced him with a hairdo. Doesn't matter really. Steve made sure I experienced it in it's original context. He was/is/will be an excellent Timelord. |
